The Good Troublemakers Project

A Good Troublemaker champions for change to make the world a better place.

“There comes a time when you have to say something, when you have to make a little noise,” said Congressman John Lewis, a prominent civil rights leader and one of the original 13 Freedom Riders. Mr. Lewis urges young people to get out in the world and cause some good trouble, to champion for change.

Because 826 New Orleans is a writing organization, we champion for change through the written word. Each year, The Good Troublemakers Project challenges the status quo and addresses a social justice issue that responds to the needs of the time. The Young Writers’ Council serves as the editorial board for the project. Workshops are held in schools and community spaces city-wide to collect a broad range of thoughts and ideas from a large number of students.

The 2018-2019 Good Troublemakers Project, This is My Happy Face,  was a call to the community to not be afraid to talk about Mental Health – to not be afraid of emotions and vulnerability. It is a literary conversation between youth and the adults in their lives. You can purchase that book here.
