The Day I Had Coffee and Other Special Moments with Special People

The Day I Had Coffee and other Special Moments with Special People is a collection of stories about moments, some real and some imagined, with special people written by the amazing students in our after school program- a free literacy-rich program for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-grade students who receive one-on-one support with homework, reading and writing. This semester, students were introduced to personal narrative writing and dedicated weeks to perfecting these stories. Once their stories were written, students drew illustrations of the person featured in their story with the support of Whole Village Art Therapy, an organization that supports 826 New Orleans After School daily by working with students to build social-emotional skills and self-expression through art.
